Music School in Poznan
Music school in Poznan
Competition project.
The location of the music school had a strong influence on the form of the building. The compact shape of the building is the result of supplementing the missing urban fabric, as a continuation of the lines of the neighbouring buildings, as a result of which it harmoniously blends into the existing surroundings. Each corner of the planned school corresponds to the corner of the adjacent building and its height. The elevation divisions of the glass were designed in sizes referring to the divisions on the surrounding tenement houses.
The building's light dynamics are given by the variable heights of the attic and the undercuts on the ground floor.
Building concept
A tram running on the tracks, a car braking, a bicycle bell - street music.
Falling rain, the rustle of leaves and branches, a gust of wind - the music of nature.
A concert during final exams, band rehearsals - school music.
All these phenomena create acoustic waves - they come to us as sounds, as ambient music...
which the building picks up by transposing it onto its skin-façade, trying to present its own interpretation of the noise, noise, sound of the street and the neighborhood.
Phenomena in nature and everyday life are variable, which is why the building will change its skin every time a new acoustic wave hits it.
