Edvard Munch's house, Hvitsten, Vestby

Munch's house in Nedre Ramme in Hvitsten, Norway

Complete restoration

Edvard Munch bought the property Nedre Ramme in 1910 and kept it until his death in 1944. Here he created works of art in a vitalist style, with nature and people painted in strong colours.

Now it is possible to both visit Munch's house and rent it and live in it and walk through the coastal landscape that inspired him.

I worked on this project for Petter Olsen together with architect and conservator Geir Helland. The project was a total renovation and partly reconstruction. Included the research to find out how did the house look like when Edvard Munch lived there. We worked on the reconstruction of the balcony and

glass veranda, replacement of windows with accurate detailing, registration of original colors and equipment and many other changes, including also the annex building belonging to the plot.
